3/4/2021 - Wastewater & Water Service Billing Adjustments - Winter Storm Disaster Declaration

Brushy Creek MUD Wastewater and Water Service Billing Adjustments in Response to the 2021 Winter Storm Disaster Declaration

The Brushy Creek MUD recognizes that the severe winter weather which occurred in February impacted our customers.  Some may have experienced leaks from broken pipes and many dripped faucets to prevent frozen pipes.

In recognition that the water usage during this extraordinary winter storm event did not reflect typical usage, the Board of Directors has revised the District’s winter averaging for calculation of sewer rates and implemented water leak billing adjustments.  Each of these is described below.

Winter Sewer Averaging:

We are working on the 2021 sewer averaging calculations which will be reflected in the April utility bills. Our efforts are to minimize the negative impact of February’s water usage during the winter storm on the averaging calculations.

Water Leak Adjustments:

Customers who experienced a water leak due to the winter storm event may request an adjustment by completing the Winter Storm Leak Adjustment Request form and providing the following information:

  1. A request for the leak adjustment prior to May 30, 2021;
  2. Provide a copy of the plumber’s leak repair receipt or other evidence of the leak repair; and
  3. Submit the form and supporting documentation to the Customer Service Department at the District’s main office or email it along with the supporting documentation to customerservice@bcmud.org.

For customers that meet these requirements, the District will review their February 2021 water usage and compare it to February 2020 to identify the additional water usage associated with the leak.  Eligible customers will receive a billing credit for the excess usage.  For these customers, water bills for the February 2021 usage period will be based on the February 2020 historical water usage.

Utility Billing Mailing

District utility bills for the February service period will be mailed out during the week of March 1st.  Our review of customer accounts for the February service dates indicates that while most customers experienced increased water usage, the actual amount billed may be less than anticipated.

Example:

A customer uses 5,000 gallons of water in January 2021 and 10,000 gallons in February 2021:
